Just because you're a student doesn't mean you have to eat like one, but it doesn't mean you have to break the bank either!
One of the things I've noticed most at uni is how other students eat in comparison to me. My sister always says to me that I'm not a proper student, but I like knowing that just because I am a student doesn't mean I have to eat like one, even if I am on a budget.
I've always loved cooking, when I was younger I even wanted to be a chef. I love thinking about ideas that I can create for meals using leftover things I have in the fridge. Most of all, I love finding recipes that I could try, whether I could switch and change ingredients to make it cheaper.
There are many books on sale that are fantastic for students that you can pick up from supermarkets for a really cheap price. I remember buying a book just before I started uni called Cheap Eats, which is part of the Good Food range (I have put a link to where you can buy it).
There are loads of websites dedicated to students on a budget who love to cook, or even those who don't. One of the sires that I think is best suited to students is student recipes. There are recipes you can make when you've just had your loan put into your bank account as well as recipes you can follow when you've got not money left and have to survive on baked beans. The student friendly site uses a mixture of quirky and easy to navigate icons and fantastic recipes which will fill you up no matter what your budget.
Another website that I find useful is the BBC Food website, it will give you the choice of finding a recipe if you know what you want to cook, but you can also look for recipes using ingredients you have left in your fridge or cupboard.
As I said before there are loads of websites, but if you can't find a recipe you want, then why not just make it up. If you mess up it doesn't matter there are always ways to rectify problems, but you never know, you may invent a dish that is so tasty that you won't want to wait to share with your friends.
I will be sharing with you some recipes that I love to cook in different times of the year, or when I have little money left from my student loan. I would love to hear any recipes you have that you want to share with others.
Email me sandra.spencelayh.92@gmail.com if you have any tips and tricks that you would like to share with everyone.
